Juvenile Law
Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, Juvenile Law Attorney
The juvenile court system is very complex in Pennsylvania. If your child has been arrested, it's important to seek the advice of an experienced juvenile law attorney to keep your child from supervision by the Office of Juvenile Probation, if possible.
Lawyer John M. Kenney has more than 20 years of experience representing juveniles in either Bucks County, Montgomery County, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, or Mercer County, New Jersey. The lawyer offers a free initial consultation to meet with your family and answer your questions.
Juveniles can be charged with the same types of misdemeanor and felony charges adults face, including:
- Shoplifting
- Under-aged drinking and DUI
- Drug charges
- Vandalism
- Assault
- Sex charges, including child molestation and rape
- Theft
- Burglary
- Computer crimes
The difference in juvenile cases is that children from 10 to 17 years of age are not found innocent or guilty. They are adjudicated delinquent until age 18. At that time, most misdemeanor charges are cleared (expunged) from the child's public record. Felony charges remain on a child's court record and can be used against him or her in any adult criminal proceeding. Depending on the seriousness of the charges, juveniles can be tried as adults, or can be transferred to adult prison when they reach age 18.
An experienced defense lawyer may be able to negotiate criminal charges to lesser offenses that won't follow your child into adulthood. A lawyer can also make sure that your child's record is cleared (expunged) so that the arrest does not come back to haunt your child as an adult.
